The Italian Greyhound – A Historic Pub with a Modern Italian Twist

The Italian Greyhound is a Grade II listed building that has stood proudly in Great Glen for over 400 years. Once a resting place for travellers, it remains a cherished landmark — a true national treasure that deserves treasuring.

A Historic Pub with a Modern Italian Twist

When we took over The Pug & Greyhound, our dream was simple: to honour its English heritage while bringing something new to the table. The result is The Italian Greyhound — a perfect blend of traditional English charm and authentic Italian cuisine.

Every dish celebrates Italy’s bold flavours, while every detail of the building preserves its historic heart.

Our History

Originally known as The Old Greyhound, the pub’s name dates back to between 1553 and 1642, inspired by the Lords of the Manor and the Nele family, whose Coat of Arms featured three greyhound heads.

In the mid-1700s, The Old Greyhound came into prominence as stagecoaches and mail coaches travelled across England. With the busy London Road running in front, it became a vital stop for passengers journeying from London to Dunstable, Market Harborough, Leicester, Nottingham, and beyond.

For centuries, it has remained a gathering place for locals and travellers alike — known for good food, warm company, and its timeless character.

A New Chapter

We believe great food should tell a story — of heritage, passion, and community. Our goal is to ensure The Italian Greyhound remains a place where history is felt, flavours are celebrated, and everyone feels at home.
